James Cottrell and Joe Lovett were among the “top” 100 Collectors as named by Art and Antiques magazine. With more than 400 works, their contemporary collection includes works by Barton Benes, Cindy Sherman, David Hockney, Deborah Kass, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kara Walker, Laurie Simmons, Louise Bourgeois, Sol LeWitt, Vik Muniz, and Winston Link, among others.
Raphael Rubinstein, Senior Editor at Art in America wrote of the Cottrell-Lovett collection: “It is safe to say, there is no collection of contemporary art in the United States like this one…Clearly, this is an assembly of art that follows the sensibilities of two individuals and not any shopping list, which is what makes it so rewarding to look at and to think about. May its independent character be an inspiration to other art lovers.”
