James Cottrell and Joseph Lovett have been collecting art since the mid-1970s and have amassed a collection that includes works by, among others, Donald Baechler, Jean Michel Basquiat, Barton Benes, Roland Flexner, Keith Haring, David Hockney, Deborah Kass, Jonathan Lasker, Suzanne McClelland, Malcolm Morley and Ray Smith. In 2004 a selection of works from their collection toured the United States in an exhibition titled “Co-Conspirators: Artist and Collector” and they were listed among Art & Antiques Top 100 Collectors in 2001.
